Why Following the trend is not always a good idea

Like most areas of fashion, popular tattoo designs follow a trend. What may be hot one year, maybe considered distinctly un-cool the next. A certain design or a particular tattoo theme can become popular overnight if a piece of body art has been favoured by a celebrity. So how do you ensure that your tattoo remains as cool in five years as it is now?

Well, the quickest way to answer that question is to look at your motivation for getting a tattoo done. If it is to simple look good because someone else has a similar design, then I'm afraid that you'll always be at risk of sporting a design that you may regret. The whole point of a tattoo is that it is something you have done for yourself and no one else. That is why it is important to have knowledge of all of the different designs available and make your own educated choice, rather than following the crowd.

One of the more popular designs at the moment is the tribal tattoo; these are often worn on the arms or legs. These forms of tattoos have evolved from Hawaiian or Samoan traditional tattoos that symbolise a coming of age in their cultures.

Another popular form of tattoo is a small flower or butterfly; these are often favoured by young females. These tattoos are often applied to the lower back, designed to take advantage of another trend, low cut hipster trousers which are low enough for the tattoo to be on show.
