Butterfly Tattoos
Butterfly tattoos are popular for a number of reasons, the most obvious one is the beauty associated with butterflies in general. Tattoos don't always have to have a deep meaning, sometimes we apply a tattoo quite simply because they look nice. As a result, butterfly tattoos are very popular among young ladies.
The trend for butterfly tattoos with young ladies has been picking up steam for a number of years, especially in western countries where the fashion of the day such as low cut hipster trousers, allows the wearer to show off an area of body art, usually a flower or butterfly tattoo. One famous celebrity who wears her own original butterfly tattoo design with pride is Drew Barrymore.
Of course, as with most body art and tattoos, there is often a mystical reason for choosing a certain theme, butterfly tattoos are no different. One such story involves the plight of two young lovers, one of whom was the legendary Bai maiden who was wanted as a concubine by the area leader. Instead of succumbing to his whim, she and her lover committed suicide by drowning, there are said to reappear in the form of butterflies every year. A story of love and sacrifice, its power still inspires people today to have butterfly tattoos applied.
Butterflies also have a spiritual connection; many cultures compare the journey of our own lives to that of a butterfly. The butterfly can only be, once it has been a caterpillar, a butterfly is the beautiful creature that results from a dormant chrysalis. A butterfly tattoo can symbolise rebirth and renewed hope.
